1932 Vote Against Hard Times -Ohio Campaign Flyer FDR + White + Bulkley. Interesting 1932 vintage flyer making a clear reference to the Great Depression and  promoting Franklin Roosevelt for this first term in office, Robert Bulkley for Senator and George White for Governor of Ohio. Also urges voters to vote "The Straight Democratic Ticket. Issued by the Democratic Executive Committee as listed at the bottom left. Original.

On the reverse of the flyer a person by the name of Esperance M. Carl typed a letter, apparently to an editor, pitching the idea of writing a column or story  about the "mountain folk": of the Great Smokey Mts of Tennessee. She or he says that she/he spent two years in a log cabin living with the mountain people which he points out is "quite an accomplishment as these people are living today as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago and are very suspicious of all outsiders, who, even today, are termed as 'firriners' by them. Why she/he typed the letter on the back of this flyer we have no idea but we imagine given the hard times of the economic depression this was all the paper he had -but ther person did own a typewriter!

Frankly, the letter from Esperance is just as interesting - or more - than the flyer on the opposite side.
