1972 Republican National Convention VIP Senate Radio-TV Ladder Badge. Fromt he 1972 convention that nominated Richard M. Nixon for his second term as President. The top header displays a blue enamel "National Convention" designation. Suspended from the header are three bars 1) Max M. Barber 2) Superintendent and 3) Senate Radio-TV Gall (Gallery). Original.
The 1972 Republican National Convention is the introduction of a "Miss Miami Beach" beauty pageant as part of the convention's festivities. The pageant was organized by the convention's host city, Miami Beach, and featured local women competing for the title. The inclusion of the beauty pageant was seen as an attempt to add some glamour and entertainment to the political event. While it may seem unusual for a political convention, it reflected the convention's location in a popular tourist destination known for its beaches and nightlife.
