2013 Obama-Biden Medalcraft Mint Inaugural Medal With Proposed Mellon Design. An interesting inaugural medal produced by the Medalcraft Mint. 70mm.  Limited edition. This was Marc Mellon’s initial entry in the inaugural medal competition for the 2009 official inaugural medal. The obverse of the medal has Obama facing left with his name at the top surrounded by 18 stars and the legend: 44 th PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The reverse has an eagle perched on a rock formation. e PEACE dollar. Above the eagle reads: INAUGURATION. WASHINGTON D.C. JANUARY 20, 2009 and surrounded by 12 stars. To the left of the eagle is E PLURIBUS UNUM. This medal is uncirculated . Mellon’s design, along with ten other designs was rejected by the inaugural committee. The inaugural committee then asked Mellon to submit additional designs and one of which ended up being the accepted portrait for the official 2009 medal. The Medalcraft Mint then produced this unofficial version.

Marc Mellon is known as one of America's foremost representational sculptors, well known for his portrait busts, commemorative statues, and works in bronze exploring the worlds of dance, sport, and family life.
