This is an original and authentic button from the 1864 campaign of Abraham Lincoln for President and Andrew Johnson for Vice President. The 1864 Lincoln second term ferroytpes are scarcer than the 1860 versions, although both are still coveted by collectors.
The front of the button has a photo of Presidential candidate Abraham Lincoln and "A Lincoln" above Lincoln's portrait. The reverse has a photo of Vice Presidential candidate Andrew Johnson.
Very clear photograph of Lincoln, although see the full description below for the reverse side and rim edge.
A ferrotype, also known as a tintype, is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of iron coated with a dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support for the photographic emulsion.

Lincoln's photo exceptionally bright and clear with very few specs or marks, the Johnson photo, while still recognizable and bright, has numerous marks. Then at the top of the rimthere is a 3/16" cut-out in the brass edge. If your focus is on the Lincoln
