Steel-engraved frontispiece portrait of Lincoln. 9x5½, original dark brown pebbled and blind stamped cloth, front cover decoratively lettered in gilt. Printed by Government Printing Office, 1866. Published prior to Library of Congress numbers. Published by the Government Printing Office by order of Congress on February 12, 1866 in memory of Abraham Lincoln. The book is written as an oratory - recalling in often flowery detail the story of his life, the significance of his accomplishments, and the end of slavery. The appendix goes into detail about what happened in the aftermath of his death. Sixty nine printed pages. A popular book in its time that is still afforable and, of course, original.
