Something unusual for your Adlai Stevenson and John Sparkman collection. Certainly something you don't see every day. These wooden "ad mats" was used in the printing process to create a printing plate for either ads to appear in newspapers or campaign materials. Sometimes called a stereotype matrix or wood at mat and are difficult to read since they were not the final product, just one of the steps in the printing process. Includes two mats, one with the photo portrait of Adlai Stevenson for President and the second with the photo portrait of John Sparkman for Vice President. They were sent to a California newspaper during the 1952 presidential campaign for use in an ad promoting Stevenson and Sparkman. It is difficult to see the image since these ad mats were produced in such a way that the photos are recessed and difficult to see until ink is applied. Original.
