Benjamin Harrison White House China Rare 9.5" Dinner Plate. The gorgeous design shows an American eagle in the center, similar to the on the Lincoln china, with a gilt decoration of of corn and goldenrod as suggesed by Mrs. Harrison. The service was marked "T&V" (Tressemannes and Vogt) and "France Decore Pour M.W. Beveridge Washington D.C." in gold and the mark "Harrison 1892" was also stamped in gold on the reverse as a matter of record and to prvent theft. The Harrison china was originaly ordered in 1891 by Mrs. Benjamin Harrison for use in The White House, and reordered several times during the term of the President. Truly one of the most beautifuly designed of all the presidential china, and rarely does this 9.5" plate come on the market. Originally acquired from the noted collector and dealer, Ray Mead in 1993.

From the Dan Hanson Collection

Historical Notes

According to the "Official White House China" book by Kapthor, Mrs. Harrison selected corn in the design to typify the produce of the United States and a delicate compliment to the Hooser state. The goldenrod was selected because President Harison considered it the most beautiful of our native flowers..."
