Last week we were asked if there were any political memorabilia items that we will not sell. Good question, and one we had an answer to. There was a collectible that immediately came to mind that we refused to purchase or handle on consignment. In fact, we decided we would not even offer an opinion of value. It was... well... startling. It was just an ordinary weekend and we received a call from a gentlemen that started to explain that he owned an item that he thought we would be interested in. He was obviously uncomfortable and did not immediately share with us what the item actually was. His stated reason for the call was to discover the value of the time, although we had the impression that if we offered the right price he would have seriously considered selling it. What was the item that we wouldn't buy and wouldn't handle on consignment? Well if this were a TV show or American Idol, we'd cut to commercial now and leave you wondering. But its not, so here we go. The gentleman explained to us that at one time he worked as a school teacher in Illinois. At that time there was a young man that attended the school where he taught. And that young man had taken many tests - including an IQ test - which the gentlman still had in his possession after all these years. It was the young man's IQ test. And that young man whose IQ test reportedly still sits in the desk drawer of this former teacher is.... President Barack Obama. And now, as Paul Harvey used to say "you know the rest of the story".
