1929 Frank W. Stearns - Calvin Coolidge Friend, Confidant, Enigma & Mystery Man

1929 Frank W. Stearns - Calvin Coolidge Friend, Confidant, Enigma & Mystery Man.  Who was Frank W. Stearns. We know he was a close friend of Calvin Coolidge, visited Coolidge at the White House on numerous occassions, a strong supporter and champion of Coolidge, the founder of a large Massachusetts department store, and someone who many claimed was a sounding board and confidant for President Calvin Coolidge.  

In an excellent article about Frank W. Stearns, simply titled "On Colonel Stearns" published online, the author summed up the man this way " It remained a mystery to many who this Mr. Stearns was and what his "real" angle might be... Was he an unofficial adviser to the President ... Was he exerting some invisible force on decisions and policy?"

Included in this offering, is a letter dated February 28, 1929  a few days before President Coolidge left office and addressed to Sergeant Seaman of the White House Police and White House "doorkeeper". In the letter Mr. Stearns thanks the Sergeant "for the many courtesies which  you have shown us during the past six years" and is signed by Mr. Stearns.  The phrasing and timing of Mr. Stearns letter (just days before President Coolidge left office, supports the understanding of the strong relationship between Mr. Stearns and President Coolidge,  and suggests that it wasn't just Coolidge that was leaving The White House, but also Mr. Stearns. 

Also included inside the envelope are two Keystone View Company stereoview cars, one featuring President Coolidge at his desk at The White House and one of President Coolidge and his Cabinet and the original envelope addressed to Sergeant Seaman "The White House", Washington, D.C.
