Gingerbread has been a traditional Christmas decoration at The White House. First Lady Martha Washington began the tradition and then later, in 1929, First Lady Hou Hoover added to the tradition by decorating the The White House christmas tree with gingerbread cookies. This is a collection of seven different and individual candid photos taken by a lucky guest in 1979 when Jimmy, Rosalynn and Amy Carter invited guests to the White House for the event. All are original and have notations on the reverses like "Rosalynn & Amy greeting us", "Ginger Bread House" etc.

Historical Notes

In 1969 the Nixon administration began the tradition of a Gingerbread house.
