A rare glimpse into the White House. This is an official portfolio and enclosures from the Staff dining hall inside The White House. It was issued in 1970 during the first term of Richard M. Nixon to the Special Assistant to the President and White House Secret Service agent. It includes a stately outer porfolio with a gold embossed presidential seal and "White House Staff Mess printed in gold on the cover, still with the original Gold Tassle attached. The Staff Mess was normally reserved for senior level White House Staff, Cabinet Members, and selected guests The portfolio was presented to the recipient when he left The White House. It is a settlement bill for his dining in the official dining hall. It includes eleven different receipts impreinted at the top "Whie House Staff Mess" Each bill was from a different meal in 1970. One of inside pages says" "The White House Staff Mess. This is a final statement of you raccount wiht the White House Staff Mess. We hope your association with the Staff Mess has been as much a pleasure for you as it was for us to servce you. Sincerely James D. Huges Brigadier General, United States Air Force, Military Assistant to the President." A truly rare piece of White House memorabilia
