Rare original and large Hand Sewn 34 Star Civil War Flag with very unusual and rare star arrangement in the shape of two "U"'s. Flag is completely hand sewn, with several old hand stitched repairs. Single applique' stars with the back side having peek a boo stars. Made of wool. The 34 Star Flag dates from 1861 to 1863 when Abraham Lincoln was President during the Civil war. An amazing addition to your collection or library. Very nicely and professionally framed for presentation. The 34 star flag is particularly rare since it was only in use for two years after Kansas was admitted as a State and just before West Virginia. Dramatic. Historical Notes
The modern meaning of the american flag was first used in December 1860, when Major Robert Anderson moved the U.S. garrison from Fort Moultrie to Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor. Adam and the flag was used throughout the North to symbolize American nationalism and rejection of secessionism.
