A true conversation piece. In 1984, incumbent Ronald Reagan was considered the front-runner for his second term as President of the United States. But just in case Democrat Walter Mondale pulled of the win the Newsweek magazine staff hurredly prepared two "Election Extra" covers. One, proclamed Ronald Reagan the winner in an Avalance, and a second cover, titled "UPSET! - Exclusive: The Untold Stor of Campaign '84". This limited edition framed proofs of the covers of both editions was presented to members of the Newsweek production staff in appreciation of the tough 28+ hour days they spent preparing alternative issues and covers. This plaque comes directly from one of the key members of the Newsweek production staff. Nicely matted and framed and includes proof copies of the rarely seen front cover of the Mondale upset version as well as the Ronald Reagan version that hit the newstands. A total of only 100 to 150 plaques were produced as issued to the Newsweek staff. A rare collectible for the Ronald Reagan collector that wishes to celebrate Reagan's second election victory, the Walter Mondale collector who wants to remember what could have been, or the political collector who covets rare and interesting pieces of political history for a den, library or museum.
