1913 Charles Dewey Hilles Signed and Inscribed Portrait Presented to White House Police Force Lieutenant. Charles Hilles served as the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, Private Secretary to U.S. President William Taft, Chairman of the Republican National Committee and then delegate to the Republican National Committee.  Includes the imprint of Harris & Ewing photographers at the lower left and is housed in an attractive Harris & Ewing folder. Signed and dated February 16, 1913 and presented with best wishes to the member of the White House Police Force. Original.

 

Historical Notes

Charles Hilles, personal secretary to President Taft and Republican party insider during the 1920s, was influential in the appointment of judges and was held in high regard and confidence by President William Taft.
