Interesting piece of Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh political history. Ticket issued in reference to Chief  Justice Ellis Lewis of the Pennsylvania Supreme court. "Complimentary Entertainment to Chief Justice Ellis Lewis, by the Members of the Pittsburgh Bar" For an event held at the Monongahela House on November 25, 1857, in celebration of the retirement of Justice Lewis. We doubt we will ever see another of these tickets. Original.

 
Historical Notes

The Monongahea House was once considered one of the finest hotels west of New York. It was located at the corner of Smithfield and Water Streets. Famous guest include President-Elect Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant and Teddy Roosevelt.
