1860s Civil War Cover by Mage Featuring Union Soldier & Lady Liberty. This particular produced by the Philadelphia printer Magee, is not often seen.Attractive black and white illustration. Original and unused.
From a large recently acquired collection of patriotic Civil War Covers that we recently acquired.
These covers were immensely popular in the North and served to rally public support, express strong pro-Union sentiments, and document the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families on the home front. The vignette likely portrays a soldier leaving his loved one to fight for the flag and the cause of freedom
