Civil War Patriotic Cover – This Modern Blondin Leaves but One Impression upon the Mind of Every Calm Spectator: How Easily We Circumvent Secession Must Now Clearly be seen by this Arch-traitor. Jefferson Davis (J.D.) man walks a tightrope heading towards the side with the U.S. capitol building, a soldier standing guard, and the Union flag. On the right side man is poised to cut the tightrope with an ax. Unused and original. The words Copyright secured by Brown & Ryan, New York. appear to the left edge.
From the collection of Civil War patriotic covers in very fine condition that we recently acquired.
French-born tightrope sensation Charles Blondin captivated Civil War–era America with daring high-wire performances across the nation. Best known for crossing Niagara Falls, Blondin also appeared in major U.S. cities during the war, offering thrilling entertainment and a brief escape from the era’s grim realities.
