1952 Democratic National Convention Alternate Delegate Badge With Box. The convention nominated Adlai Stevenson for President. Arched header with 1952 date above crossed enameled flags separated by white star, blue title bar reading ALTERNATE and "Democratic National Convention" beneath. Short white ribbon suspends shield shaped medal of early settlers viewing the Chicago skyline. Larger white ribbon behind. In official box of issue with instruction card from manufacturer. Original.
The 1952 Democratic National Convention was the fifth convention to be held at the Amphitheatre, and it was also the largest, with over 50,000 people in attendance. However, after the convention, the Amphitheatre was deemed too old and too small to continue hosting major events, and it was eventually demolished in 1999.
