Historical Notes

During the 1968 Democratic National Convention, a group of anti-war protestors clashed with police outside the convention hall in Chicago. The violent confrontation between the police and the protestors, which was televised, came to be known as the "Battle of Michigan Avenue." The incident led to a backlash against the Democratic Party and was seen as a symbol of the deep divisions and tensions in the United States at the time.
