We have been selling rare copies of the iconic Dewey Defeats Truman newspapers for over forty years. We have sold almost all of the various editions with different headlines that the Chicago Tribune published in error.
But this is the very first time we have ever come across this edition of Women's Wear Daily "The Retailer's Daily Newspaper" that also announced "Dewey Warren Win; Business Gain Seen" with a front page headline. Not the same wording as the classic Chicago Tribune edition, but falsely proclaiming Dewey as the winner just like the Tribune did. We didn't even know this newspaper existed until we saw the photo.
Now, we won't kid you. The newspaper is in terrible condition - and we do mean terrible; rips tears, toning, missing pieces etc. So why were we so excited when we bought it? Because it is the only one we have ever seen and it is the perfect companion to the Chicago Tribune Dewey Defeats Truman newspaper and the headline and the top of the front page still display nicely and would look even better framed or restored.
