1956 Republican Convention National Committtee Vice Chairman Member Badge. Brass semi-circular header with GOP elephant holding enameled flag above, blue backed title bar with links to four bars (Mrs Edna Basten Donald, Vice Chairman, Member, Arrangements Committee). Short, red, white and blue ribbon suspends circular medal with co-joined busts of Arbraham Lincoln and Dwight Eisenhower, with larger red, white and blue ribbon behind. Original. 

Historical Notes

During the 1956 Republican National Convention, held in San Francisco, California, an interesting and historic event took place related to the vice presidential nomination. It was the first time in American history that a woman received a nomination for the vice presidency from a major political party.
