Historical Notes

At the 1956 Republican National Convention in San Francisco, delegates unanimously re-nominated Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. A memorable moment came when Eisenhower delivered his acceptance speech remotely from Walter Reed Army Hospital, recovering from intestinal surgery—making him the first major-party nominee to accept by nationwide broadcast from a hospital setting.
