1963 Pre-Annoucement Signed Letter from George H.W. Bush Seeking Suport for his first political campaign for U.S. Senate Seat in Texas. Letter on the letterhead of George H.W. Bush serving as a personal pre-announcement of his plans to announce his candidacy for the United States Senate in 1964. This was Bush's first political campaign, one which he lost to Democratic Senator Ralph Yarborough. This is one of the earliest letters (dated September 10, 1963) that we have seen where Bush's political ambitions became apparent as he seeks the support of a key potential supporter.

The letter was addressed to Roy H. Cullen, the grandson of legendary oilman Hugh Roy Cullen. The letter seeks the support of Mr. Cullen (crossed out and changed by Bush to the more personal "Roy"). It requests a visit with Roy to "sit down and talk about this that you might see your way clear to supporting me." The young Bush goes so far as saying "I am taking the liberty of enclosing a personal resume sheet. I would be delighted to have your reactions about this, and I hope our paths cross before too long." Signed by the future President, with inscription.
