1889 Harrison Morton & George Washington Inauguration & Centennial Medal. One side commemorates the inauguration of Benjamin Harrison and Levi Morton as President and Vice President with busts of both, a shield at the top and the date 1889. The second side shows a bust o George Washington and the date 1789 as part of the centennial celebrations of George Washington's inauguration. With hole at the top for hanging. Original.
Benjamin Harrison’s 1889 inauguration deliberately echoed George Washington’s first inauguration a century earlier. Marking the constitutional centennial, Harrison took the oath on March 4, 1889, before an enormous crowd, emphasizing continuity of the republic. Centennial events and symbolism honored Washington while underscoring America’s endurance, unity, and orderly transfer of presidential power after one hundred years.
