1960 Kennedy, Humphrey, Freeman, Blatnik Minnesota Coattail Button
1960 Kennedy, Humphrey, Freeman, Blatnik Minnesota Coattail Button. Top left features image of United States Capitol with photo of John F. Kennedy at the right with his name. This 1960 Minnesota campaign button promoted the DFL ticket alongside John F. Kennedy. It supported Hubert Humphrey for U.S. Senate, Orville Freeman for Governor, and John Anton Blatnik for U.S. Representative from Minnesota's 8th Congressional District. A similar button featured George J. Matthews who was the nominee for the 6th Congressional District instead of Blatnik. The buttons were designed to support the democratic slate in different districts. Original.
From an amazing John F Kennedy collection in very fine condition that we recently acquired and will be listed over the next weeks.
It took a bit of hunting to discover who "Matthews" was in the coattails button. Typically, collectors and dealers merely mentioned the last names of Matthews and never stated the position he ran for. With some research and help from a "friend" we determined it was George J. Matthews was the 1960 Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) nominee for U.S. House in the 6th Congressional District, challenging longtime Republican incumbent Walter H. Judd. Mystery Solved.
