1908 Iowa Democratic State Democratic Convention Unusual Leather Badge. This is only the third of these badges that we have seen in the last 48+ years and this is by far the best condition of the three. It is a delegate badge made of a red/maroonleather looped through a thin rectangular header embossed with the title DELEGATE. The ribbon is imprinted/embossed Democratic State Convention Cedar Rapids Iowa March 26 1908. The convention nominated William Jennings Bryan as the democratic candidate. Nice piece of Iowa history. The embossing is actually very lcear, but since it was embossed on a dark red/marroon background it is hard to read except up close. Original.

Historical Notes

In 1908, the Iowa Democrats nominated William Jennings Bryan for President at their state convention held in Cedar Rapids on June 24th. Bryan was a former congressman from Nebraska who had previously been the Democratic nominee for president in 1896, 1900, and 1904. In 1908, Bryan went on to win the Democratic nomination for president at the national convention held in Denver, but he was defeated in the general election by the Republican candidate, William Howard Taft.
