Jean-Bernard Merimee served as the French Ambassador to Australia from 1982-1985. In 2005 he reportedly admitted to accepting bribes in connection to the Oil for Food Program. Signed letter from Merimee to U.S. Ambassador dated May 3, 1984. Original.

The Oil-for-Food Program was established by the United Nations in 1985 to allow Iraq to sell oil on the world market in exchange for food and other humanitarian needs.
