1955 Actual Resolution Document Electing Joe Duke Sergeant at Arms & Doorkeeper of the Senate. From the 84th Congress 1st Session. Lyndon Johnson submitted the resolution to make Joe Duke both the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate. Good piece of Senate and Arizona (Duke was born in Arizona) history.

From the collection of Joe Duke.

Historical Notes

In 1949 when the majority in the Seante shifted back to the Democrats, Duke actively lobbied for the Sergeant at Arms job. However, instead of approahnig senators to seek their support, he lobbied tehir secretaries. His tactic worked.
