1963 Lyndon Johnson and UAW Union President Reuther Cecil Stoughton Type 1 Photograph.
On March 23, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson traveled to Atlantic City, New Jersey, to address the 19th Constitutional Convention of the United Automobile Workers (UAW), where he met and appeared alongside UAW President Walter Reuther before roughly 12,000 delegates. This photo is identified on the reverse by White House photographer Cecil W. Stoughton rubber stamp and date "Mar 23 1964." Also includes his handwritten catalog number 136-17-64.
Part of a large collection of photos and ephemera from former UAW President Walter P. Reuther.
Walter P. Reuther served as the president of the United Automobile Workers (UAW) from 1946 until his death in a 1970 plane crash. He transformed the union into a powerful force for social change, securing middle-class wages, comprehensive health care, pensions, and civil rights alliances.
