Historical Notes

The 30th anniversary of the March on Washington, originally led by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963, was commemorated on August 28, 1993 in Washington, D.C. The event, often called the 30th Anniversary March on Washington for Jobs, Justice, and Peace, drew tens of thousands of participants who gathered at the Lincoln Memorial to honor King’s legacy and to renew calls for civil rights, economic opportunity, and social justice.
