WOW.  This rare advertising poster promoted "New York's Birthday Salute to President Kennedy" where actress Marily Monroe gave her infamous rendition of the classic "Happy Birthday Mr. President" song. Monroe was America's greatest sex symbol at the time and the event took place at the world's most famous arena - Madison Square Garden.

This is the iconic event in which Marilyn Monroe squeezed into a too tight dress and sang "Happy birthday, Mr. President to the young and charismatic President John F. Kennedy. The poster  advertises the appearance of Marilyn Monroe along with Jack Benny, Danny Kaye, Bobby Darin, Jimmy Durante, Henry Fonda, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, and more. Truly a star studded evening. Few people knew, or could have imaged at the time of the supposed infamous sexual liaison of Marilyn Monroe and the President, except perhaps JFK's inner circle.

The only example of this rare item that we have had in our possession in the last 43 years. The inscription at the bottom is from the New York Post newspaper Wednesday, May 2, 1962". Printed on some type of groundwood newspaper. Likely a newspaper proof that was also used as a poster.  This same design was used on an original flyer that is scarce, but more often seen. Original, of course.

Historical Notes
Monroe sang the traditional "Happy Birthday to You" in a sultry, intimate voice, with "Mr. President" inserted as Kennedy's name.
