During the 1960 campaign, Richard Nixon and Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. made history by participating in the first-ever televised presidential debates against John F. Kennedy. Although Nixon was an experienced debater, his pale appearance and lack of makeup contrasted with Kennedy's telegenic image, influencing public perception and impacting the election outcome.
