Woodrow Wilson Original Declaration of War Address of the President 1917. Original of the Woodrow Wilson's Declaration of War Address, dated April 2, 1917. On that date President Woodrow Wilson asked Congress to declare war against Germany, saying, "The world must be made safe for democracy." Days later, Congress voted overwhelmingly in favor of a war declaration. 8 pgs. A truly historic document printed by the Government Printing Office, Washington, 1917.
On April 2, 1917, President Woodrow Wilson delivered this address to a joint session of Congress and called for a declaration of war against Germany. The resulting congressional vote brought the United States into World War I.
