Civil War patriotic cover titled “Scott’s Extinguisher!” featuring a bold cartoon of Union General Winfield Scott smothering the Confederacy beneath a massive American flag. Beneath the sweeping “extinguisher,” a figure labeled “JEFF” (Jefferson Davis) is shown in a futile, almost casual posture while the Union moves to suppress rebellion. A striking and symbolic design emphasizing Scott’s early-war strategy and Union resolve. Unused and Original.
From a large collection of civil war covers in very fine condition that we recently acquired.
This design references General Winfield Scott and his early Civil War strategy—often called the “Anaconda Plan”—which aimed to suffocate the Confederacy through blockade and control rather than quick destruction
