Dwight & Mamie Eisenhower White House Lamp From Lillian Rogers Parks. A gift from the Eisenhower's to Lillian Rogers Parks, who was a maid and seamstress that was hired in 1929 by the Hoover administration. She continued her work through the Roosevelt, Truman and Eisenhower administration. She later authored the book "My Thirty Years Backstairs at  The White House."

As Ms Parks explains the lamp "It has two floral scenes and two different scenes of gentlemen courting their ladies."

The accompanying letter from Ms Parks, dated July 14, 1982 includes her sharing a short story about the Eisenhower's around the time of the inauguration. In the letter Ms Parks says "... this was a personal possession of President and First Lady, Mamie Eisenhower. I trust it will be preserved for future generations.

The lamp was sold by Ms. Parks to noted historian and collector Raleigh DeGeer Amyx and then sold to The Dan Hansen Collection

Historical Notes

From the letter:

"The lamp was given to me by Mrs. Mamie Eisenhower. This gift of a personal belong in 1958, surprised me. Although I had received many things from other First Ladies during my thirty years at the White House, Miss Mamie almost always gave her personal belongings to her daughter-in-law Mr.s John Eisenhower."
