1860 Rare Prince of Wales Albert Edward  "Ambrotype Artists" First Royal Family Member to Visit America. Very interesting item featuring a photo of the Young Prince of Wales, Albert Edward, that commemorated his visit to America in 1860. This marked the first time a member of the British royal family visited America. The Ambrotype was produced by George Clark Jr & Co of Boston (Ambrotype Artists)  best known for his elegant daguerreotype and campaign items in the 1850s and 1860s, including one of the most revered badge of Abraham Lincoln. The item consists of the original case and the photo of the Prince in an ornate frame. On the reverse of the frame is the original Commemorative card held into place by a series of prongs along the edge. Since the card on the reverse is not visible unless the ornate frame is removed from the case, the owner make a paper duplicate of the wording on the back so it can be viewed at any time. The glass covering does have two cracks in it, but this historic commemorative is still an amazing historical piece. Original

Historical Notes

At the insistence of Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales traveled under the title Lord Baron Renfrew.
