In the 1864 presidential election Abraham Lincoln defeated Georg McClellan with 78% of the vote and over 90% of the electoral votes. The democrats had chosen pro-war candidate General George B. McClellan which is said to have contributed to Lincoln's strong showing in the 1864 election. Original.
