The ceremony took place on January 21, which was the coldest inauguration day in history. The temperature in Washington, D.C., dropped to a frigid 7 degrees Fahrenheit (-14 degrees Celsius), with wind chill making it feel even colder. Despite the extreme cold, the inauguration proceeded as scheduled, with Reagan delivering his second inaugural address outside on the Capitol's West Front.
