1972 Shirley Chisholm & George Wallace Presidential Campaign Pinback Button. Measures 1.25" in diameter. Chisholm and Wallace never actually ran against George Wallace for the Democratic Party nomination for President on the 1972 and became the first African American to seek the nomination of a major party. George Wallace claimed to have become a born again Christian after the assassination attempt on his life and renounced his prejudicial leanings. We consider this to be be a novelty button. Original.

Historical Notes

George Wallace did later on in life help Chisholm encourage southern congressman to extend minimum age protections to domestic workers.
