Stephen T Early -  Press Secretary & Deputy Secretary of Defense Who Served Under Roosevelt  and Truman.  Under President Truman, Mr. Early served as the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Defense which was the second-highest ranking official in the Department of Defense. During that period the post-World War II peace was threatened by the onset of a cold war between th U.S. and the Soviet Union.  He also served as the White House Press Secretary under both Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman.
