1972 McGovern Eagleton Shriver "What a Mess" Anti-McGovern Button. Not often seen. The button refers to McGovern's choice of Thomas Eagleton as his running mate in the 1972 presidential election after it was disclosed that Eagleton required hospitalization several times for depression, and Eagleton was forced to quit the race. He was replaced on the ticket by Sergeant Shriver but the harm to the McGoern campaign had already been done. Original.
Historical Notes
George McGovern was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1956 and re-elected in 1958.
