In 1938, Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first sitting U.S. president to appear on television. On April 30, 1939, FDR delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the New York World's Fair, which was televised by NBC. Although television was still in its early stages of development, this event marked a significant milestone in the history of mass media.
