1912 Democratic Convention Tammany Badge. The Convention nominated Wilson and Marshall for President and Vice President The brass hanger at the top has a red, white and blue enameled shield. Underneath the shield are the words, "Baltimore 1912" and "Tammany". The word Tamany is surrounded by blue enamel. The lower portion of the medal is suspended by two rings. TBelow is an eagle with spread wings. Beneath the eagle is a framed portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Underneath Jefferson's portrait it states "National Democratic Convention" with a flower berry and flower design. Manufactured by "The Whitehead and Hoag Co. Newark N.J. as stated on the back. Original.
Tammany Hall played an important part in the 1912 Democratic Convention. When Tammany (often referred to as a powerful and corrupt organization) endorsed Champ Clark for the nomination it hurt, rather than helped Clark's run against Wilson for the nomination.
