Historical Notes
In 1928, Herbert Hoover and Charles Curtis ran a unique ticket: Curtis, Hoover’s running mate, was the first person of Native American ancestry nominated for national office by a major party. A member of the Kaw Nation, Curtis had grown up on a Kansas reservation.
