Original and authentic antique 42-star flag from 1889-90 during presidential term of Benjamin Harrison. Cotton printed flag. The 42 star became obsolete on July 4th 1890 when five states were added to the Union.
Beautifully framed with museum conservation framing using all all wood frames, UV acrylic, and cotton rag mat components, acid free. Genuine Authentic antique American Flag. Extremely well packaged for shipping.
42 stars was never an official flag star count. The 42-star flag was to become official on Juy 4, 1890 and flag makers had already begun producing them. But Idaho obtained statehood on July 3, 1890, taking the star count to 43, just one day before July 4, 1890. For this reason 42 star flags are particularly of interest to collectors.
