[caption id="attachment_106" align="alignright" width="150"] Tickets to the 2013 inauguration of Barack Obama are now available[/caption] The Inauguration of President Barack Obama's second term in office on January 21, 2013 is expected to bring record crowds to the United States Capitol in Washington, DC, during the Inaugural period and on the day of the Inauguration itself. In keeping with tradition, since January 20th falls on a Sunday, a private ceremony will be held on this date prior to the public event. The 10-day inaugural period runs January 15-24, 2013. The most important events include the Presidential Swearing In Ceremony, Inaugural Address, Inaugural Parade, and finally a night of Inaugural Balls and parties honoring the President of the United States. Demand for tickets to all the Inaugural events is always very high, and tickets for some events can be difficult to come by. If you are looking for tickets to a particular event, and are having trouble getting them, consider using a ticket broker. GreatSeats.com is an online ticket provider in the secondary market located in the DC Metro area, giving the company a deep understanding of and expertise in local markets, particularly with respect to providing tickets to events associated with the Presidential Inauguration, which GreatSeats.com has done for the last four inaugural seasons. The Presidential Inauguration in 2009 drew, by some estimates, over four million visitors to the Washington Metro area to take part in inaugural celebrations. Hotels were sold out for months in advance, and attendance at the Swearing In Ceremony was unprecedented. As was security, which was the tightest in memory, as over-maximum capacity crowds gathered on the National Mall to witness the first black President assume office. In 2009, there were over 100 balls and parties in the area honoring President Obama. There were a dozen “official balls,” those organized directed by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. They had names like “Commander-In-Chief Ball,” “Biden Home States Inaugural Ball,” and “Neighborhood Inaugural Ball.” The President and First Lady traditionally attend each one, greeting their supporters and taking a turn on the dance floor. In addition to the official balls, there are dozens of “unofficial balls” held by various state societies, universities and non-profit and other organizations. The most popular in 2009 included the Illinois Presidential Inaugural Gala, the Hawaii State Society Inaugural Ball and the Pennsylvania Inaugural Gala. While the President is officially invited to each, there is never a guarantee he will attend. For the 2013 Inauguration, information is available and advance orders for tickets can be done through the ticket broker GreatSeats.com website for all Inaugural Events available to date, including the Swearing In Ceremony, Inaugural Parade and several balls. Final announcements and details for the official balls are still pending, but various unofficial balls are on sale now. GreatSeats.com says that they make every effort to research Inauguration information, but it cannot guarantee 100% accuracy due to the short lead time for the inaugural schedule of events. All event dates, ticket availability and prices are subject to change with little or no notice. Their ticket prices reflect the difficulty in obtaining limited, high-demand tickets for these historic events. Ticket delivery is guaranteed the week of the event, but may be as last-minute as the day of the event. All tickets will be available for pick up at their satellite office set up in DC’s Union Station the week leading up to the big day.
