1881 James Garfield Obsequies Memorial Honorary Ribbon. Black on white ribbon issued dated September 26, 1881 the date James Garfield's body arrived in Cleveland Ohio for burial after his assassination. We assume the term "Honorary" referred to an individual of importance, or someone who assisted at the burial. Original.
James A. Garfield was buried in Cleveland, Ohio, at Lake View Cemetery following his assassination in 1881. A grand funeral procession honored him, and in 1890, a magnificent memorial, the Garfield Monument, was completed to commemorate his life and presidency.
