1869 James Garfield Signed Document to Senators Wade & Sherman. As you doubt know, Garfield signed items are difficult to find since his life and presidency was tragically ended by assassination just a short time after he took office. Very interesting document sent and signed by every member of the Ohio congresisonal delegation to Senators Wade & Sherman. The petition asks the Senators to confirm the appointment of an Ohio citizen despite his "indiscretions" (which included liquor) during the Civil War that led to his discharge and allow him to atone for his sins. Garfield's signature is at the bottom fo the document and idenfied as "19" the number of his district in Ohio at the time. Beneath the document is a signed Cabinet Card with photograph of Garfield. Interestingly, while James Mitchell Ashley was a signer (District 10), he was also one of the most vocal advocates for the impeachment of President Andrew Jackson. Original.

Professionally double-matted and framed in beaded wooden frame.

Comes with our 100% money back guarantee of authenticity and a Certificate of Authenticity.
