1889 Jefferson Davis Handwritten & Signed Letter Regarding Bull Run & Battle of Manassas

ALS, one page, 5 x 8, July 31, 1889. Handwritten letter to Mr. S. S. S. West. handwriten letter signed by Jefferson Davis the first President of the Confdederacy reflecting on the failures of the confederacy following the battle of Manassas. in full: "Accept my thanks for your very interesting article on the battle of Manassas. Your criticism I think it entirely correct & though much has been written to explain why the fruits of victory were not gathered, there were many who feel like yourself & are consequently disappointed."The First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas) was the first full-scale battle of the Civil War. The battle was considered a Confederate VIctory but the strength of the Union army made it clear to all that this would likely be a long and costly war.
