This 1875 signed letter was sent by Simon Cameron, U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania and Secretary of War under President Abraham Lincoln, to Eliuh Washburne, then U.S. Minister to France who also appointed by President Ulysses S. Grant as Secretary of State. Original.
The letter asks Washburn to assist the sister of William H. Armstrong (former U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania) during her visit to Washington D.C. and identifies the sister as "A lady of distinguished social standing".
Also includes the original envelope which also is signed by Cameron at the top left and adresed to Washburne.
